A great workspace doesn’t require a huge room—just smart design. My office setup is proof that with the right pieces and a bit of planning, you can build a professional, efficient workspace in the same room where you train, sweat, and unwind. Here's how I designed the office half of my home gym/office combo.
📝 The Desk: Form Meets Function
I chose a mid-century modern desk with clean lines, a narrow depth, and just enough surface space for dual monitors and accessories.
Wood finish matches the warm tones of the room
Compact enough to leave open floor space
Large enough for a monitor stand, keyboard, and more
🪑 Bonus: The desk is paired with a tall-backed, faux leather office chair that tucks away when not in use.
🖥️ Dual Screens for Deep Work
The upper portion of the office features an LG curved monitor for work and an LG TV mounted above for screen-sharing or winding down with a show.
Curved monitor improves focus and ergonomics
Mounted TV keeps surfaces clear
Both can be used simultaneously thanks to a simple HDMI switch
The monitor sits on a riser to give me extra storage below and to bring the screen to eye level—an easy fix that makes a huge difference.
📂 Storage That Works
To the side of the desk, I use a small 3-drawer filing cabinet from Wayfair to hold documents, office supplies, and a printer. It doubles as a side table and never feels bulky.
Neutral color blends in with the wall
Keeps clutter out of sight
Moves easily when I switch the space into workout mode
I also use wall-mounted shelving in the shared space above the dumbbells for books, files, and crates, as well as some gym accessories on the top shelf.
🎭 Small Touches, Big Impact
Even in a tight setup, the vibe matters. I painted a hex-pattern—using a large format stencil—on the wall in a blend of black, purple, and gray to echo the gym colors but keep things cohesive.
A mix of personal photos and art makes the space feel my own
Wireless keyboard + trackpad = fewer cords, more flexibility
Natural light and a plant in the corner help bring life into the room
✨ Final Thoughts
This setup has been years in the making, and it’s proof that you can build a serious workspace in the same square footage as your squat rack. The key is choosing multifunctional furniture, going vertical when possible, and keeping your vibe consistent throughout.
